As the director of the Balin Eye & Laser Center, ophthalmologist Nancy Balin, MD, FACS, of Western Massachusetts is committed to creating a full service facility which provides the highest quality, most technologically advanced medical care to the residents of Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin counties. The Balin Eye & Laser Center is located in Northampton, Massachusetts. We have satellite offices in Springfield and Ware for the convenience of our patients.

Dr. Balin performs LASIK eye surgery in her state-of-the-art laser suite. Dr. Balin's vision corrective surgical specialties include LASIK, CustomVue™, Refractive Lensectomy, cataract surgery and iLASIK™. She has been providing precision eye care to the greater Springfield area and all of Western Massachusetts for more than a decade.

Technology so advanced that it is approved for military aviators and NASA astronauts and iLASIK is only available in western Massachusetts at the Balin Eye & Laser Center. The iLASIK procedure is a completely customized, Blade Free technology to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. The procedure is performed using the VISX Star S4 laser in combination with the Femtosecond Intralase laser. The iLASIK procedure has the potential to provide patients with better vision than is possible with their glasses or contacts.

Our Laser Technology

VISX lasers have been used to successfully treat over 11 million eyes. Our VISX Star S4 laser features Variable Spot Scanning to allow for a larger treatment area, a 3D Eye Tracker to follow the tiniest motions of the eye and IRIS Registration to ensure accurate alignment of the custom treatment during surgery.

The Intralase Femtosecond Laser creates the Lasik flap using a laser beam as opposed to a blade. The laser is a more accurate technology and results in fewer flap complications.

Dr. Balin offers the latest lens implants to treat patients who are not good LASIK candidates or those patients who have been diagnosed with cataracts.

ReSTOR®, Tecnis® and Crystalens™ IOLs -

These advanced multifocal and accommodating lens implants can restore distance, intermediate and near vision in patients who have been diagnosed with cataracts. In most cases patients who choose these lens implants will not need glasses for activities like driving, watching TV or reading after their surgery.

Visian ICL™ and Verisyse™ IOL

The Visian and Verisyse lenses are used to treat patients who are too nearsighted for LASIK or those patients whose corneas are too thin to have LASIK. The Visian and Verisyse lenses works like a contact lens in the eye correcting vision.
